Rajpakshe to hold talks with PM today; Tamil issue on agenda

The Visiting Srilankan President Mahinda Rajapakse will hold talks with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh over lunch in New Delhi on Friday. Mr Rajapakse arrived in India on Thursday as Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of the 19th Commonwealth Games.Progress in the re-settlement of internally displaced Tamils in the island nation and other issues of mutual concern are likely to figure in the talks.The Srilankan External Affairs Minister, Professor Peiris met his Indian counterpart Mr S.M Krishna on day and informed him on the steps taken in this regard. India is closely involved in assisting Sri Lanka in the re-settlement and rehabilitation of nearly three lakh internally displaced Tamil civilians.It has committed 1,000 crore rupees for rehabilitation purposes and the construction of 50,000 houses in the Northern Province. Mr. S.M Krishna is also scheduled to visit island nation in the last week of this month.
