Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today underlined the need for police to reduce the trust shortfall with local communities. He announced that community policing would be extended to other parts of the country. <br/><br/>Inaugurating the National Community Policing Conclave 2016 at Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram today, the Minister asked the police to exercise control and discipline while using social media to connect with the people.<br/><br/>Besides the law and order issues, terrorism was also a cause of grave concern", Mr. Singh said. "Apart from global terrorism, the social changes brought about by the internet and social media have posed huge policing challenges and have completed changed the way in which policing is done", he added.<br/><br/>The Minister complimented Kerala for successfully implementing Janamaitri Suraksha Project, a community policing initiative launched by the State in 2008. <br/><br/>Later, participating at the annual day celebrations of the State Student Police Project in Thiruvananthapuram, the Minister said Student Policing would be implemented at national level. The project, launched in 2010 covering 432 schools has, so far, trained over 80,000 students.
