Rajnath Singh leaves for China on 6-day visit

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today left for China on a 6 day visit. During the visit, he will discuss ways to boost security ties and end smuggling of arms to Northeast militants. Besides holding talks with his counterpart in China's political dispensation, Mr Singh will call on Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang.<br/><br/>Before leaving for Beijing, Mr Singh expressed hope that his visit would help in deepening of mutual understanding and trust between the two countries. He added that he intends to further strengthen the tradition of mutual learning and better understanding from each other. During his stay, he will hold bilateral talks with Guo Shengkun, State Councillor and Minister of Public Security tomorrow in Beijing followed by the signing of a Joint Statement. <br/><br/>The Home Minister will hold a meeting with Meng Jianzhu, Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China and visit a Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT Unit besides a local police station on Friday. He will visit Shanghai's Command and Control Centre on Saturday. Mr Singh's visit comes in the backdrop of steady improvement of relations between the two countries while streamlining mechanisms to address the border dispute. This is the first trip by an Indian Home Minister to the country in a decade.
