Home Minister Rajnath Singh today launched a mobile application Himmat to enhance women safety in the national capital. The application is an initiative by Delhi Police which caters to working women who have smart phones and travel alone. It can be downloaded free of cost from the website of Delhi police. Once the user registers he will get an SMS with download link on the mobile number registered. The app is available on android phones.
The app will allow users to call the police control room and also trigger a 30-second audio and video recording on the press of the phone’s power button .Addressing the gathering, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said ,the app should also be made accessible to I-phones which will further increase its number of users.He added , the ministry has issued an advisory to the states for 33 percent reservation in the recruitment of women police.
Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi said, in the event of any crime or perceived threat to one’s security, a woman can use SOS feature of the app which will help police to track the location of the woman's mobile.
The app has been designed keeping in mind the safety of women. The will also help in getting crucial evidence in the event of any crime against women.
