The 28th meeting of the Northern Zonal Council chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is underway at Chandigarh.<br/><br/>The meeting is being attended by Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarider Singh, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal, Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Nirmal Singh, Water Resources Minister of Rajasthan Dr Ram Partap, Lt Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal and Delhi Minister Imran Husain. <br/><br/>Our corrspondent quoting sources in Punjab government said that the issues expected to be tabled for discussion include inter-state transport taxation, inter- state crime, drug menace, terrorism and SYL.<br/><br/>Addressing the meet, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh called for coordination by the concerned states with the Centre to find a feasible solution for optimal utilization of river waters based on internationally accepted riparian principles. <br/><br/>Though he did not make a direct reference to SYL, Captain Amarinder reiterated his demand for re-assessment and re-determination of the availability of surface waters in the Ravi, Beas and Sutlej rivers. He pointed out that Punjab is suffering an ecological crisis because of depletion of ground water, he urged the central government to take expert advice on how to make reliable estimates of future flows in these rivers.
