Rajeev Shukla has resigned as Chairman of the BCCI, in the wake of the raging spot-fixing scandal.
Mr Shukla took the decision to quit saying that he felt it necessary to do so in the light of the recent developments regarding BCCI. He said that he also took into account the resignations of BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale and treasurer Ajay Shirke before taking the decision.
The resignation of Mr. Shukla comes on the eve of the emergency meeting of BCCI working committee scheduled to be held in Chennai tomorrow. The meeting is expected to be a stormy one with pressures mounting on the BCCI Chief N Srinivasan to quit the top post.
AIR correspondent understands that the meeting will delibarate on the conditions laid down by N. Srinivasan for stepping aside. Srinivasan has been refusing to resign from the post of BCCI president saying he had done nothing wrong.
His Son-in-Law Gurunath Meiyappan of the Chennai Superking has been arrested by the police along with some others on charges of betting during the IPL matches.
