Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi arrived in Kashmir today to take stock of the latest security situation in the Valley.Official sources told AIR that Home Secretary made a courtesy call at the residence of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Both discussed overall situation, related issues including security situation in the State. <br/>'<br/>During the trip, Mehrishi will meet Governor N N Vohra also and discuss the prevailing situation in the state. He is scheduled to hold a meeting with top civil, police and army officers to review the security situation in the state.<br/>'<br/>Home Secretary's visit comes a day after a young Kashmiri Army officer was abducted and killed during intervening night of Wednesday by militants in south Kashmir's Shopian district.<br/>'<br/>Kashmir witnessed violence during the April 9 bypoll to the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat in which a total of nine civilians lost their lives in more than 200 incidents.<br/>'<br/>The Election Commission later also cancelled the May 25 bypoll to Anantnag Lok Sabha seat in view of volatile situation.<br/>'<br/>In addition, security agencies are facing new phenomenon of protests and stone pelting by local people near encounter sites after counter insurgency operations are launched in various areas particularly in south Kashmir region.
