Rajdhani train accident: President, PM express grief over loss of lives; Rail traffic hit

The President and the Prime Minister have expressed grief over the loss of lives in the Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express train accident.

President Pranab Mukherjee called upon the State Government and Railway authorities to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved families as well as the best of medical care to the injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences over the loss of lives and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident. A release by the Prime Minister's Office said, Mr Modi is in touch with the Railway Minister, who has apprised him of the relief work at the accident site.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said it was too early to blame the Maoists for the derailment of the Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani in Bihar. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr Rajnath Singh said he has spoken directly to rail officials on the spot and asked to wait for further report on the incident.

He said, the Prime Minister has been informed regarding all developments and even he agrees that it is too early to blame the Naxals. Mr Singh however, said the derailment of a goods train at Motihari, about 60 km away from the site of Rajdhani Express mishap, could be the handiwork of Maoists. The Home Minister also expressed condolences to the family members of those who died in the mishap.

Due to the Rajdhani express derailment at least 15 trains have been diverted and 13 have been terminated or cancelled in this route. According to ECR, Chief Public Relation Officer, Ashok Kumar Rajak, stranded passengers have been already sent by a special train on their onward journey.

Press released issued by ECR said that 4 people were died and 18 passengers were injured in this incident.
