Rajasthan sarpanchas on dharna demanding implementation of MNREGA

Agitating 'sarpanchs' from different Gram Panchayats in Rajasthan, continued their 'dharna' in Jaipur on the second day today. Over 300 protesters remained on the 'dharna' overnight to voice their grievances and demands in connection with their role in implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) works and protest against ' alleged police brutality yesterday. About 5,000 demonstrating 'sarpanchs' and their supporters had gathered at the ground on Wednesday near the Statute Circle in the vicinity of the Assembly complex to hold demonstration. They pelted stones and marched to the state Assembly building. The police had to resort to water cannons, tear gas and lathi charge to control the situation and stop the march.
