In Rajasthan, the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednsday presented the State Budget in the state Assembly. He announced many welfare schemes for the poor and weaker sections. Presenting the budget in the Assembly, Mr. Gehlot announced a new housing scheme for BPL families and said that 2.80 lakh new houses will be given to these families in next year. The Chief Minister announced four thousand crore rupees village road connectivity scheme. He announced that 12,000 new policemen and 50,000 teachers would be recruited. Health Services will be strengthened in remote and tribal areas and all patients would get free medicines in all government hospitals from 2nd October. In the tax proposals, the Chief Minister announced to waive tax on wheat, rice, pulses and kerosene. DTH and cable TV services and cinema will also be tax-free while new tax has been imposed on registration of new vehicles of more than three lakh rupees price. Additional surcharge of five paise per unit on consumption of more than 100 units of electricity in urban areas is also proposed in the budget. Forty percent tax proposed on all tobacco products in the State. The 881.95 crore rupees budget deficit is estimated.
