Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has mediated between the Maldivian government and the opposition to sort out their differences. Following talks between Mr. Rajapaksa and the two sides in Male on Wednesday the Maldives President Mohammad Nasheed has re-appointed Cabinet of ministers who had resigned en mass last week.<br/><br/>A joint press statement by Maldives and Sri Lanka stated that Maldivian President Nasheed’s government and the opposition party have now agreed to constitute a committee of six members of the Majilis [the legislative body of Maldives], comprising three members from the government and three from the opposition to commence and to carry forward a dialogue.<br/><br/>Mahinda Rajapaksa who air dashed to Male for a day said that he engaged in this initiative as a friend and a neighbour of the Maldives who offered his assistance in accordance with the wishes of the Government and the Opposition of the Maldives in initiating a dialogue to resolve the current crisis.
