Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan has called upon the staff to improve work culture at the RBI. Mr Rajan recently wrote a memo to the central bank's 17,000 strong staff stressing on less bureaucracy, more communication and openness to outside thinking.Mr Rajan expressed concern that the RBI is not seen as enforcing compliance, saying that in India, we do not punish the wrongdoer unless he is small and weak. Mr Rajan also said that some staff does not display enough curiosity about areas outside the RBI. He urged RBI workers to read outside sources and learn about the wider world. The Governor also reiterated the need to hire people from outside the RBI to improve the quality of research in the central bank.
