Raja questioned in SC and CAG findings in 2G case

Former Telecom Minister A Raja has questioned in the Supreme Court the Comptroller and Auditor General – CAG – findings in the 2 G spectrum allocation. Refering to the CAG's report that the exchequer had suffered a loss of 1.76 lakh crore rupees in the allocation, Raja's counsel T R Andhyarujina told the court that the fugure is speculative and mindboggling. He submitted before a bench of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly that CAG report is a subjective opinion which is not at all justified. He said whatever has been done by the Telecom Department was on the basis of the TRAI recommendations, which the CAG cannot override.Andhyarujina also said the principle which has been applied by the CAG in its auditing is not accepted as standard method of evaluation. He said the matter requires serious consideration as the CAG may completely be wrong on it. He also said that before Raja became minister his predecessors Dayanadhi Maran and Arun Shourie had already granted 52 licences.
