In Jammu and Kashmir, three persons were killed and five injured due to house collapse in Udhampur district of Jammu division in the wee hours today. The incident occurred in village Barmeen, 35 kilometres from Udhampur , when a kuchha house collapsed following over night incessant rain. The dead include a woman and her two sons aged 11 and 7 years.
Of the five injured persons, four have been shifted to District Hospital Udhampur. Some roads have been closed for traffic as landslides have damaged various link roads.
The most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh also witnessed widespread rainfall today. The rain has plummeted the day temperature sharply and eased out humid conditions in the region. With this, rain deficiency in Chandigarh and some other areas has come down to 20 per cent with recent rains. According to agricultural experts the rainfall at this time will benefit the all crops.
Heavy rains lashed the national capital too, bringing down the temperature three degree below normal level. The city received around 13.5 millimeter rain till 8.30 am. Delhiites have to face trouble commuting due to waterlogged roads and traffic jams. The problem of traffic jams were reported at ITO, Lakshmi Nagar, Ring road, Mathura Road and other parts of the city.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 30.7 degree Celsius, while the minimum was 25.5 degree Celsius. The Met Department has forecast a cloudy sky and one or two spells of rain in the city towards evening.
Meanwhile, relief works are being carried out in rain-affected areas of Rajasthan. The State Government has approved Rs 2.64 crore for relief work in Jaipur, Ajmer, Dausa, Sikar and Jhunjhnu districts. About 33 people were killed in 12 districts during the last three days in rain-related incidents in the state.
In Sikar and Jaipur districts, The Army is helping the local authorities in draining out water from affected areas. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reviewed the situation at a high-level meeting on Friday and instructed officials to provide all possible help to the affected people. Gehlot directed to send Emergency Response Teams to Jhunjhnu and Sikar to help the local administration. The State Government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next kin of those killed in rain related incidents. In Jaipur, 2000 people have been shifted to 5 relief camps and they are being provided necessary help.
There is no report of heavy rain in any part of the state during the past 24 hours.
