Rains run riot, hit life in North India

In Uttar Pradesh, life is limping back to normal in several eastern districts where incessant rain had disrupted the normal life. There is no improvement, however, in the flood situation in 33 districts where about 300 villages are still waterlogged. AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the rail traffic has been fully restored on Gorakhpur – Lucknow section of North Eastern Railway after repair of the rail tracks. However, the people are facing traffic snarls on highway 28 and 29 as the road has been damaged due to rain. In Uttarakhand also, incessant rain has hit different parts of the state. AIR correspondent says heavy rain since Thursday night was still continuing in some parts of the state. Road transport has been badly affected due to rain. Five persons were killed in a house collapse in the Roorkie sub-division of Haridwar district. In Dehradun rain has broken the record of last 39 years.
