According to prediction of Met Department, the low pressure area over South west Bay off Tamilnadu coast has become well marked and may concentrate into a depression. North East Monsoon has been very active in the State throwing normal life out of gear in the Coastal areas. Educational Institutions had to forego their examinations because of the adverse impact rain has caused in many districts of the State. Incessant rain and flooding in low lying areas have made people to stay indoors or in the relief camps set up by the Government. Residents of six villages in Nagapattinam have been evacuated. Doctors are worried about out break of communicable diseases and the Health Department has launched medical camps from today as a precautionary measure against spread of communicable diseases. The Deputy Chief Minister Mr. M.K Stalin has said that the Cabinet meeting which would be held this evening will hold discussion on increasing flood relief measures based on the report. The meeting would also focus on permanent flood control measures. Earlier eight senior officials appointed by the State Government would be submitting their report on the damages caused all over the State. Presently, 45000 people have been camped in Nagapattinam and 90 thousand hectares of land and roads including 1000 km of National Highway in Cuddalore have been severely damaged by the rain in the last two days. AIR correspondent Joy reports from Chennai that Chennai and the Suburban areas had experienced 11 centimeter rainfall yesterday North Chennai and the coastal areas have suffered badly due to incessant rains for the past 48 hours. Chennaiites preferred to remain indoors as traffic had been badly hit and many areas remained flooded. Seventy thousand food parcels were distributed in Chennai at the four permanent relief camps and Community Centres set up by the ChennaiCorporation. Fishermen did not venture into the sea for the third day today. Local cautionary signal number three kept hoisted at Chennai, Ennore Cuddalore, Puducherry and Nagapattinam ports. Met Department has predicted that isolated heavy rain would occur over Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours.
