In Haryana, the Yamuna, Som and Markanda rivers are overflowing due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh. The overflowing Som river has flooded Pamjeto, Madkheri, Udhamgarh and Bhokari villages of Yamunanagar district. The crops have been submerged in water. The pressure of water flowing through the agricultural fields has breached the Dadupur- Nalvi canal near Jagadhari and water is flowing to the canal through these breaches. Irrigation department spokesman said, around 97 thousand cusecs of water has been released from Hathnikund barrage today following rise in water level in Yamuna river. Red alert has been issued in the villages situated near Yamuna and Som river. The Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat districts are also alerted following possible threat of flood. Meanwhile the overflowing Markanda river in Ambala district has flooded few villages of Mulana area and acres of crops have been submerged in water. While, in Uttarakhand, Intermittent rains have disrupted the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway and thousands of pilgrims are stranded due to landslides. Landslides triggered by heavy rains blocked vehicular traffic between Kanchnapani and Laambagad in Chamoli district.AIR Correspondent reports, long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road. Border Road Organisation personnel, along with policemen, are trying to clear the debris and reopen the road for vehicular traffic. Meanwhile, traffic has been resumed on the Gangotri National Highway which was blocked following the landslides from yesterday.
