Rains hit UP, progress towards east

In Uttar Pradesh, heavy rain continues to lash western region while light to moderate rain has occurred in eastern UP. The situation has worsened in Jyotiba Phule Nagar where more than a dozen villages have become affected due to additional release of water from Bijnore barrage. The flood posts have been alerted to cope up with any exigency.The water level of the rivers in eastern UP continues to rise due to light to heavy rain in their catchments. The river Ghaghra is rising in Ayodhya and Turtipar while the level of Kuano is rising in Mukhlispur and that of Rapti in Bansi due to heavy rain. The rain is particularly beneficial for agriculture. The electricity supply has also improved due to decrease in consumption. Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand incessant rain has hampered the normal life in remote rural areas of the state. The Met Department has predicted that rain may occur again in the next 24 hours at various places.
