Heavy rains continued to lash most parts of north India. In Uttar Pradesh two persons died in house collapse due to heavy rains even as major rivers swelled further resulting in flood-like situation in a number of districts in the state. Parts of Rajasthan witnessed heavy downpour with Jaisalmer receiving a maximum rainfall of 39 mm. The Met department predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in South-West Rajasthan.Rains also lashed several areas of Himachal Pradesh triggering landslides at numerous places and disrupting normal life. Incessant rains in Lahaul and Spiti district resulted in blockade of Manali-Leh highway. Rains caused road blockades in interior areas in Shimla and Kullu districts. Most of the rivulets in the state are flowing above danger mark.With the absence of rains in the past few days, the mercury levels increased in Punjab and Haryana with Chandigarh recording a high of 35.2 degrees. However the weathermen forecast moderate to heavy rainfall at few places in Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours.In the national capital, sultry and humid weather conditions returned with mercury recording a high of 33 degrees. The humidity levels oscillated between 72 and 86 percent. The sky will remain partly cloudy today with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 33 degrees.
