Rain-related incidents kill 60 in Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, Sixty people have been killed due to heavy rain and landslides in two days. Schools have been closed for three days in the state. About 1200 roads have been blocked at various places and some districts are marooned from the road connectivity. Meanwhile, rescue operation is on in cloud burst affected area of Almora. Hundreds of houses were damaged and about five thousand people were shifted to safer places. Many parts of the state have been flooded as rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Met department has predicted that heavy rain at some places in next 24 hours.AIR correspondent reports that that Met Department has predicted heavy rain in next 24 hours.Meanwhile, the district administration of seven districts in west and central UP have been put on high alert to meet any exigency arising out of level rise in the rivers.AIR correspondent reports that Ramganga and Sharda rivers are in spate due to heavy inflow from Kalagarh and Banbasa barrages.The situation in Bijnore, J.P Nagar, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, and Farrukhabad has become critical. Pilibhit district of terai is also facing the threat of flood.At least twelve people have lost their lives in rain related incidents in the state during past 48 hours. These deaths occurred due to house collapse, electrocution and drowning.In the eastern part several rivers continue to rise at different places. Many of them are flowing above the danger mark. The river Saryu in Ayodhya has started receding but is still above the Danger mark. Heavy rain is still occurring in several places in western and eastern regions.
