The Tamil Nadu Government will construct temporary houses for people in Nilagiri district who have lost their homes due to heavy rain, which devastated the region last week. Each house would be constructed on a war footing at a cost of 70,000 rupees.This was decided at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Chenai. The meeting also decided to construct permanent houses for those affected in the rains within six months. 1,869 houses in the district were either damaged completely or partially due to the rain.<br/>
