In Uttar Pradesh, rain and hailstorm has damaged Rabi crop in many eastern districts. Rain along with squalls, thunder and lightening continued till morning in eastern parts of the state damaging crops of wheat and mustard in the fields and on the threshing floor. At least two people died due to uprooting of trees and thunder strikes. Rail and road traffic were disrupted due to felling of trees on the National Highway and Gorakhpur – Varanasi rail route. According to met office, 4 mm rain has been recorded in Varanasi and 1.6 mm in Gorakhpur since last evening. The met office has predicted squalls with thunderstorm during the next 24 hours.
