In Uttar Pradesh, the Rivers are in spate due to heavy rain in neighboring hill areas and the release of water from the barrages. The Ganga, Ramganga, Ghaghara sharda and Yamuna rivers are flowing above the danger mark at various places, in western and eastern UP. Thousands of hectares of agricultural land is flooded with water has damaged several main crops. Reports are coming in on the inadequate supplies of relief materials and shortage of fodder for the animals. The National highways between Delhi- Lucknow is still closed for traffic. The traffic on Bareilly-Haridwar and Kashipur -Murdabad -Delhi highway is also disrupted. However Delhi-Pauri highways has been opened from Bijnore after water level of Ganga receeded from the roads. In Uttarakhand, the Yamunotri and Kedarnath route have been re-opened but many other national highways are still closed due to landslides following intermittent rain in different parts of the state. Three more persons were reported killed in rain related incidents. Met Department Director Anand Sharma told AIR Dehradun correspondent that the forecast is that light to moderate rain may occur at various places whereas heavy rain is likely in the foot hills of Dehradun, Champavat and Nainital in the next 24 hours. In Bihar, the rivers Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati and Mahananda are in spate. The surging waters of Ganga has entered into the premises of Engineering and Agricultural colleges in Bhagalpur. The colleges have been closed till 27 of this month due to floods. The state government has deployed five teams of National Disaster Response Force in Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Khagaria and Gopalganj districts to provide emergency response during floods. Meteorological Department has forecast normal to heavy rains in catchment areas of various rivers of the state. In Assam, the overall flood situation in Dhemaji district has begun to improve as rain has stopped in the catchment areas. The water level in most of the rivers, originating from Arunachal Pradesh, is receding. More than one lakh, fifty five thousand population in the district were affected in the current wave of floods. Road traffic to the district headquarters of Dhemaji has been restored after repair of the damaged portion of National highway 52 at Samarajan. The road communication between Silapathar and Dhemaji still remains cut off. AIR correspondent reports, the Centre is likely to send a high-level team to Assam soon to assess the flood situation in the state.
