Rainfall during the previous week across the country, was 20 per cent above normal, which was the best of the season so far. With this, the total deficiency for the season between June 1 and July 31, has come down to 22 per cent. It is almost same as the percentage in 2009 which was a drought year. Met department said that the monsoon deficit has come down and rains are good so far and are likely to be good in the coming days. With India's rain deficit gradually narrowing down, country would escape the drought-like situation and it will help complete sowing operations in many parts of the country.
