Rain, cloudburst claim 20 lives in Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, 20 persons were killed and several others injured in cloudburst and heavy rain during the past 24 hours. Continuous rain have hampered the rescue work in Almora where 15 persons are reported missing. About 50 houses have been damaged following the heavy rain.AIR correspondent reports:”The continuing rains have hampered the normal life in the state. It has caused extensive damage. According to reports a gush of water from mountains carrying debris wash away some houses in Almora due to which more than 15 people were killed. Meanwhile, about 50 houses were flattened in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Tehri-Podi and Nanital. Villagers have taken shelter at safer places. District authorities are busy to rescue work with the help of ITBP and BRO but they are getting problem as the rain continues at some places.Meanwhile, water level of rivers including Ganga continues to rise. District authorities have alerted the people. In some districts schools were closed for tomorrow. A large number of yatris are stranded at various places for about last 60 hours following the road block due to land slide.’Meanwhile, higher reaches of Himalaya in the state have experienced snowfall. Met Department has predicted more rain in next 24 hours.
