The rain has claimed two lives in flood-hit Uttar Pradesh and drenched the national capital Delhi. In Uttar Pradesh, two persons were killed and 12 others injured, after they were hit by lightning in UP's Lalitpur district. According to the Central Water Commission, the Ganga, Ramganga, Yamuna, Sharda, Ghaghara and the Rapti rivers are flowing above the danger mark at many places in the state. Heavy rain lashed the national capital last evening, resulting in waterlogging and affecting the travel plans of people going to temples on the occasion of Janmashtami.Chandigarh received light showers, though most areas of Punjab and Haryana faced severe humid conditions in the absence of rain. Barring light rain in some places, monsoon remained weak in Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, the relief operation is going on in flood affected Gonda and Barabanki districts. About 175 villages in both the districts have become severely affected after 1.5 Kms long breach in Elgin-Charsari embankment last week. The state government has said that 27 districts are at present flood affected where the rescue and relief work has been speeded up. AIR correspondent reports that the spread of infectious diseases has been reported from many villages. The National Disaster Management team is conducting round-the-clock relief work in Gonda and Barabanki districts. They are also helping removing the carcasses of the dead animals and disinfecting the area. The medical teams are also engaged in distributing medicine to the people suffering from viral fever, Diarrhoea and other infectious diseases. Vaccination in all the flood affected districts is also going on.
