Railways to set up executive lounges, escalators

With a view to facilitate hassle-free passenger boarding, the Railways have decided to introduce a number of facilities like setting up of executive lounges and installation of escalators at 50 major Railway stations.

According to Railways Ministry, it will also provide facilities like seating arrangements, food and beverage, wheel chairs for senior citizens and the handicapped. The executive lounges will come up at stations like New Delhi, Howrah, Mumbai and Bangalore to provide value added service. The lounge will also be equipped with Wi-Fi facility, business centre with fax, laptop facility, locker facility and washroom.

Railways will also install over 300 escalators at important stations to facilitate easy movement of passengers in the next five years. Our Correspondent reports that Railways have allocated one thousand, one crore rupees for the current financial year to improve passengers amenities.
