Railways to retrofit 40,000 coaches with upgraded facilities

Railways has undertaken a massive exercise of refurbishing 40 thousand coaches with upgraded facilities and enhanced safety features. These coaches will be refurbished in next five years and each coach will cost about 30 lakh rupees. <br/><br/>Existing coaches will be retrofitted with refurbished interiors, improved seating arrangement and newly-designed bio-toilets among other modern facilities. Launching the Mission Retro-Fitment at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi, Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu said, it is an ambitious program to upgrade the level of furnishing and amenities in the coaches of Railways. He said, this is one of the largest retro fitment project in the world. He said, the mission is challenging as it will be carried out without affecting the traffic operation.<br/><br/>The state-run transporter will strengthen safety features in all existing conventional coaches equipping them with strong couplers to prevent capsizing during accidents
