The Railways is seeking to increase its revenue from non-tariff sources. These include station development, monetization of land along the tracks, advertising, overhauling of parcel business and manufacturing activities. <br/><br/>Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu told the Rajya Sabha today that he has received proposals for purchasing garbage at stations. A pilot project for disposal of solid waste generated at stations in an environment-friendly manner has been commissioned at Jaipur station, he said.
