Railways orders inquiry into derailment of Chennai Mangalore Express

Railways have ordered inquiry into the derailment of Chennai Mangalore Express near Vridhachalam Poovanur early today. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in a twitter message said that inquiry has been ordered into the accident. He also said that action on concerned staff responsible for the accident has been ordered pending inquiry. <br/><br/>Preliminary inquiry was conducted today by Commissioner of Railway Safety SK Mittal and Railway Police DIG on the derailment of Chennai Mangalore Express near Virudhunagar Poovanur early today. Detailed inquiry report will be ready within a week. Trichy additional divisional railway manager Raj Purohit, rushed to the accident site to oversee relief and restoration work. <br/><br/>35 passengers slightly injured in the accident were given first aid and they were sent to their destinations. 3 passengers who got simple injury were treated at the Government Hospital Vridhachalam. They were treated under the supervision of Railway medical officer and were given an ex gratia amount of Rs 5,000 each by Railways. <br/><br/>One person who was grievously injured was admitted in Villupuram Medical College Hospital and exgratia amount of Rs 25,000 was given to him. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced Rs 50,000 each to those with serious injuries and Rs 25,000 each to those with minor injuries in the accident as compensation. Due to the derailment of Mangalore Express 11 express trains were diverted through Trichy Thanjavur and some passenger trains cancelled.
