The Railways have launched a new catering policy . This will bring in quality food at cheap rate to passengers in trains. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, chairman Railway board Vivek Sahai said the catering policy is being implemented with immediate effect in a phased manner. He said this policy seeks to have an all inclusive approach wherein quality catering services will be provided to the entire spectrum of passengers.He said the catering services will be managed under direct departmental control. Mr Sahai said under the new policy, it is proposed to have a nationwide Grid of Base kitchens which will be the state of the art in terms of technology to supply meals to the mobile catering units. He, however, said IRCTC would continue to play an important role in the railway catering. Mr Sahai said IRCTC would be responsible for setting up of multi cuisine food courts at the major stations.
