Railways introduces 26 new trains; Tatkal scheme amended

The Ministry of Railways has announced introducing another 26 new trains. They will be operational within a week. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi also announced extension of 8 existing trains and increase in frequency of 5 more trains with immediate effect.

The new trains include Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi Express, Guwahati-Dimapur Express, Indore-Kota Intercity Express, Bikaner-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express among those which will undertake daily services. While Dwarka-Tuticorin Vivek Express, Gorakhpur- Yesvantpur Express and others will be run weekly.

The Minister said that during the rail Budget presentation, 132 new trains had been announced out of which 42 trains have already been introduced. He said, keeping in view the substantial growth in passenger traffic, Railways will also run special trains during festive and peak seasons.

Meanwhile, Railways have taken measures to prevent misuse of Tatkal scheme. The new scheme provides for booking Tatkal tickets before 24 hours instead of 48 hours at present. There will be no provision of refund and duplicate Tatkal tickets will also not be issued.
