Railways have held driver and co-driver of the Uttorbango Express responsible for the fatal train accident this morning. The Chairman of the Railway Board, Mr. Vivek Sahai told newsmen in Kolkata this evening that according to prima facie reports, the driver and co-driver did not use break and not even emergency break. Mr. Sahai said that they did not obey the signaling direction also. <br/><br/>The Railway Board Chairman said that both the pilots of the Uttarbanga Express were A category driver and had enough experience for the job. Mr. Sahai termed the accident as an unusual nature. He said that the Railway Safety Commission which will begin inquiry of the whole tragedy will examine every angle of it including act of sabotage. <br/><br/>At least 61 people were killed in a train accident at Sainthia Station in Birbhum district of West Bengal early this morning. State Home Secretary Samar Ghosh told AIR news that more than 90 others were injured in the mishap. The condition of some of the injured passengers is stated to be critical. The injured have been admitted to the Hospitals in Birbhum. <br/><br/>The Army, BSF, National Disaster Management Force and Police are carrying out relief operations. State Director General of Police said that donors are urgently needed to meet the scarcity of blood. Eastern Railway has opened control rooms at the following stations: Sealdah 033-23503535, Bhagalpur 06412-4222433 and Ranchi 0651-2600263. <br/><br/>The incident occurred when the New Coochbehar-Sealdah, Uttarbanga Express rammed into the stationary Bhagalpur-Ranchi, Vananchal Express at 1.54 am. Driver M C Dey and assistant driver N K Mandal of the Sealdah-bound Uttarbanga Express were among the dead. <br/><br/>The Guard of the Vananchal Express, A Mukherjee also died in the mishap which was so severe that one of the compartments mounted the foot overbridge across the platforms. Railway Safety Commissioner has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the accident. <br/><br/>Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee who rushed to the accident site, announced an ex gtratia of five lakh rupees each to the next of kin of those killed and one lakh rupees to the injured. One person from the deceased family will also get a job in the Railways.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports from the accident site that all debris have been removed from the rail track and train services resumed in the section this evening.
