Indian Railways posted a 4.79 per cent increase in its freight earnings as it carried 157.23 million tonnes of cargo during April-May 2011. According to an official release, the railways have earned over 11,147 crore rupees from freight traffic during April-May 2011 as compared to 10, 044 crore rupees during the corresponding period last year.
