Railways continue to deliver essential commodities during lock down

<span style="color: #222222;">Indian Railways continues to deliver essential commodities through its freight services during the nationwide lock down to strengthen Government's efforts in managing the challenges and adverse impact of COVID19 in the country.  </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Union Government has been ensuring that the supply chains of essential goods are maintained, besides focusing on farm produce being transported without hindrance within the state and inter-state.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Railways has transported around six lakh 75 thousand wagons of commodities including 4.5 lakh wagons of essential commodities like foodgrains, salt, sugar, edible oil, coal and petroleum products since 23rd of last month. From 2nd to 8th April 2020, Railways delivered total 2 lakh 58 thousand 503 wagons of commodities out of which 1 lakh 55 thousand 512 wagons contained essential items.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">This includes over 21 thousand wagons of foodgrains, over 11 thousand  agons of fertilizer, over 1 lakh 24 thousand wagons of coal and over 7 thousand 600 wagons of petroleum products. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Railways has also introduced 109 time-table parcel trains to supply essential commodities including perishable horticulture produce, seeds, milk and dairy products. It is also working in close association with various Ministries like Agriculture, Chemical and Fertilizers, Food and Public distribution to ensure availability of essential items.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> Amidst the COVID-19 lockdown Railways is also working closely with the Food Corporation of India and has moved more than 800 rakes carrying over 20 Lakh MT food grains across the country since 24th March. </span><br />''
