The Railway Ministry has decided to set up two new Directorates tasked with increasing the speed of trains and boosting non-fare revenues. Advertising will also be its major job. The first Directorate will identify and prioritise train corridors for raising the speed of trains. <br/><br/>It will also examine the condition of all important railway tracks and their speed potential. Giving this information in the Rajya Sabha during question hour today, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said the second Directorate will raise revenues by advertising along the tracks and at stations by radio, video, internet, Wi-Fi, mobile apps and interactive services. Exploitation of vacant railway lands and renovation of stations will be its major responsibility, he said.<br/><br/>
