Railway ministry suspends five of its employees for Tundla mishap

The Railway Ministry has suspended five of its employees following Saturday’s accident at Tundla station in Uttar Pradesh. Three passengers were killed and 27 injured when Kanpur-bound 2724 Kalindi Express rammed into the stationary Shram Shakti Express. The injured included the driver and assistant driver of the Kalindi Express and the guard of the Shram Shakti Express.<br/><br/>According to an official spokesman a new set of instructions and guidelines have also been issued to all the zonal railways for observing increased precautions for train operations during fog. The suspended personnel include Divisional Railway Manager, Allahabad Division under North-Central Railway, S K Aggarwal, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer, Northern Railway, Vineet Singh and two drivers of the Kalindi Express<br/><br/>An enquiry has been ordered by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, North-Eastern Circle, Lucknow, P K Vajpayee, into the mishap. The Ministry has also announced 5 lakh rupees compensation to the next of kin of the deceased, one lakh for the seriously injured and 10,000 rupees for the injured.<br/><br/>The accident occurred on Saturday morning when the Kanpur-bound 2724 Kalindi Express rammed into the stationary Shram Shakti Express at the outer signal of Tundla station on the busy Delhi-Howrah trunk route under North-Central Railway at about 0815 hrs. <br/><br/>The accident was caused by dense fog as the driver of Kalindi Express could not see Shram Shakti Express at the red signal badly damaging the latter's two bogies and getting derailed after the impact. It was the 4th rail collision related to fog.
