Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu today launched Works Module of Indian Railways E-Procurement System and implementation of e-tendering in Works Contracts in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Prabhu said, approximately 25 thousand tenders worth Rs 35,000 crore will be on the E-tender platform and this application will go a long way in increasing efficiency and effectiveness of Indian Railways system. <br/><br/>He said, manual handling of huge volume of tenders has its own shortcomings as it is time consuming, lack of uniformity,constraints in submitting bids. He said, e-tender will ensure participation of pan-India companies in the tendering process and it is a part of Digital India initiative. Mr Prabhu added that the application will facilitate all tendering departments of Railway which include engineering, mechanical, electrical, signalling and telecom, commercial, health among others.<br/>It has been developed by the Railways in association with Centre for Railway Information Systems, CRIS the IT arm of Ministry of Railways.
