Rail Roko agitation underway in Telangana

In Andhra Pradesh, the three day Rail Roko agitation called by Telangana Joint Action Committee underway in Telangana region amidst tight security arrangements. The Telangana JAC called for the agitation as part of its ongoing General Strike demanding for Statehood. Hundreds of protestors squatting on the tracks are being taken into custody by police since morning at several places across the region. Three Lok Sabha Members from ruling congress party-Ponnam Prabhakar, G Vivek and Rajaih, have been taken into custody in Karimnagar and Warangal districts while they were holding demonstration on the tracks to block the trains. Telangana Ratsa Samthi Lok Sabha Member Vijayashanthi, legislator K Tarka Ramarao and its cultural wing President Kavitha have been taken into custody when they were heading towards railway tracks in Hyderabad. Several other leaders including legislators have been taken into either preventive custody or kept under house arrest. Agitators have removed fishplates of the tracks for a kilometer in Warangal District. Cadres of political parties like BJP and CPI are also taking part in the agitation. Meanwhile, police deployed at several sensitive places across the region are preventing agitators from entering into Railway stations. Heavy patrolling of tracks is also being taken place and the protestors are being thwarted out of tracks. Meanwhile, the railway authorities are trying to operate a few trains with heavy police security on the important routes in the region. The State government has made alternate transport arrangements for the Candidates who are attending Group II examinations scheduled from this afternoon. About 2.24 lakh candidates are to attend the examinations in the region.
