Rail Roko agitation in Telangana region passes off peacefully

In Andhra Pradesh, the first day of the 48-hour long Rail Roko agitation in Telangana region passed off peacefully on Saturday. The call for two day stir was given by Telangana Joint Action Committee to press their demand for a separate Telengana state.Rail transport has come to a grinding halt following cancellation of over 230 train services by the Railway Authorities and due to protest demonstrations by agitators on rail tracks at several places in the region. Agitators have held protest demonstrations on rail tracks at several places across the region. Passengers had to face hardships due to cancellation of almost all trains originating and passing through the region. Hundreds of long distance passengers have been stranded at places outside Telangana Region like Vijayawada and Guntur . In Hyderabad all local train services have been cancelled for the two days. Auto Riksha Drivers’ unions in Hyderabad have joined the ongoing general Strike that is underway for the past 12 days in the region. Meanwhile, the state Government has made elaborate security arrangements for the Group-I examinations to be held across the state from Sunday.
