In Andhra Pradesh, rail services remain affected for the second day of the Rail Roko agitation by the Telangana protesters. Barring minor incidents, the agitation was peaceful on Sunday. However, the police have taken into custody a large number of agitators holding demonstrations on rail tracks at several places across the Telangana region. Removal of fishplates of the tracks for about 800 meters was reported in Warangal district.
Meanwhile, the railway authorities operated few trains from Hyderabad to various places in the state and destinations out side the state.
AIR correspondent reports, police have arrested a large number of agitators for their attempts to hold protest demonstrations on the rail tracks on the second day of the three-day rail roko agitation. Barring minor incidents, the agitation has been peaceful today. Keeping in view the inconvenience to the passengers, the railway authorities have operated about 15 trains from Hyderabad to various places in side the state and also destinations such as Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai. Meanwhile, the Telangana Teachers Joint Action Committee, a key player in the General Strike, today announced its decision to attend duties while continuing its stir. About 2.5 lakh teachers are taking part in the General Strike for the past 33 days while boycotting the duties through out the region. However, the teachers said the date from which they attend duties would be announced on Monday. Meanwhile, the Singareni Collieries management has invited its workers’ leaders for another round of talks. The coal production in four districts, thus the power generation in the state was badly hit due to the Singareni workers stir as part of the ongoing General Strike. Elaborate security arrangements have been made through out the region.
