Rail Ministry assures strict time schedule of summer special trains

Railway Ministry today assured to ensure strict time schedule of summer special trains and their cleanliness. Talking to reporters after taking charge as Chairman of the Railway Board, Mr. Vivek Sahai said all efforts are being made to ensure safety and security of passengers. <br/><br/>Replying to questions, he dismissed reports about reduction in carrying freight and said as against the target of 882 million tonnes, railways carried six tonnes more. <br/><br/>This he said is despite some disturbances in Orissa. Referring to filling up of vacancies at different levels in the railways, Mr. Sahai said a process has been set in motion by conducting all India examinations from this month for the selection process and this will be completed in around eight months time. He said more railway stations including one from Anand Vihar will be operational fully in the national capital shortly.<br/><br/> Mr. Sahai asserted that more trains are being pressed into service to meet the growing demand of passengers. He added that 250 km of gauge conversion has been completed this year. Talking about the private-public partnership projects of railways, he said they are working very well and more projects are being identified. He, however, conceded that operating ratio of railways has increased in the wake of the burden on the Ministry due to Sixth Pay recommendations.
