Rail fares will go up by about two per cent from on Monday. The fare for Second class ordinary( Non- Suburban) will go up by a maximum of Rs. 5 in select distance slabs while in other distance slabs there would be no change in existing fares.
According to an official release, there will however be no increase in Second Class Ordinary ( sub-urban) and Second Class Monthly Season Tickets Fares.The revised fares will also apply to tickets issued in advance for journey to commence on or after 7th October.
The freight tariff will also go up by about 1.7 percent from 10th of this month. Railways has decided to revise the passenger and freight tariff, linking it with fuel adjustment component. There has been an increase of 7.3 per cent in the fuel charge, while electricity cost has gone up by 15.5 per cent. Currently, the Railway is facing an additional burden of about 1,200 crore rupees due to the increased diesel and electricity cost.
