The Communist party of India today resorted to rail blockade agitation in delta districts of Tamil Nadu demanding release of Cauvery water to the state by Karnataka. In a statement, CPI State Secretary Pandian condemned Karnataka’s decision to stop releasing water to Tamil Nadu against the order of Cauvery River Authority headed by Prime Minister. Our correspondent reports that train services were affected for a few hours in the delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapttinam because of the agitation. Mannargudi-Mayiladuturai passenger train was cancelled. The agitation was led by party’s state secretary Pandian in Thanjavur, national secretary D Raja in Tiruvarur, national executive member Nallakannu in Nagappatinam. Many protesters including their leaders were arrested in Tiruvarur, Tiruchirapalli and Nagai. The reports that Karnataka has stopped releasing water, has sent shockwaves to delta farmers.
