Rail and road services affected due to Bihar bandh as CM pushes for special status for state

In Bihar, the bandh called by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has evoked mixed response across the state today. Hundreds of ruling Janata Dal(United) supporters disrupted train services and blocked roads at many places to enforce the statewide bandh to press for a special category status to Bihar.

AIR Patna correspondent reports, several passengers are stranded at Patna, Bhagalpur, Gaya,Begusarai and other railway stations. The main market and commercial establishments are closed in Patna and other district headquarters.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led a protest march from his residence to the historical Gandhi Maidan at Patna , where he is staging a sit-in near Mahatma Gandhi statue. Nitish Kumar said that the special status is essential for the development of an economically backward state like Bihar. Left party’s CPI and CPI(M) supporters are also backing the bandh.
