Rahul pitches for pro-poor, secular govt at Centre; says, India does not need a govt that promotes hate & anger

Making a strong pitch for a pro-poor, secular government at the Centre, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today said India does not need a government that promotes hate and anger.

Addressing an election rally at Ramanathapuram in Tamilnadu, he said that while the opposition talks of corruption, it has made no proposal to end it.

He said by empowering people with RTI, the Congress has made corruption visible to the people and they can question the government and those running it on any issue related to governance. Claiming credit for the Congress in passing the Lokpal Bill, he termed it as a big weapon against
corruption and charged the opposition with trying to
stall it.

Taking a dig at BJP leader Narendra Modi, he said that while he talks of the Gujarat model of development, he should see the Tamil Nadu model, indicating that the southern state fared better, a claim made by Chief
Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Rahul Gandhi listed out the achievements during 10 years of UPA rule at the Centre such as the Food Security Act and Right to Information Act, which, he said, have empowered the people.

He said that a dedicated ministry for fisheries at the centre is promised in the Congress party manifesto. He said Tamil fishermen have problems with Sri Lankan Navy and it will be resolved so that fishermen are benefited.
