Rahul pitches for changes in party to benefit common man

Newly appointed Vice President of Congress Rahul Gandhi has called for sweeping changes in the functioning of the party and the system to benefit the common man. Addressing the AICC session in Jaipur yesterday, Mr. Gandhi said, there is a need to bring changes fast but only after due consideration and taking everybody along.

Stressing the need to bring systemic changes, Mr. Gandhi said power is grossly centralised in all states and in all political parties.

The Congress Party also released the Jaipur declaration which called upon secular and progressive forces to unite against those who polarise the society. The 56-point declaration said that the party will continue to be at the forefront of fighting corruption, especially at the bureaucratic and political levels. The draft promises to create 10 million jobs every year.

In her address, Congress President Sonia Gandhi said, the Jaipur declaration will be the future documents of the party. Congress President Sonia Gandhi said, the direct benefits transfer scheme will benefit everybody by eliminating corruption and middlemen. Referring to Delhi gangrape case, Mrs. Gandhi said that safety and security are fundamental constitutional rights of every citizen.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the government is committed to a strong Lokpal and he is confident of passing the bill soon. He said, India attaches importance to good relations with Pakistan but Pak Army's actions on LoC can have negative impact on bilateral relations.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said the UPA government has ensured political stability, communal harmony, economic development and internal security in the country.

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram expressed confidence that the economy will again achieve eight percent growth. He said, there are indication that investments are picking up and foreign fund flow will continue to be abundant.
