Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is holding meeting with the newly elected MLAs to Uttar Pradesh assembly today. He is also meeting to Party MPs from the State to discuss the strategy for the upcoming general elections in 2014. This is the first formal review meeting of the U P polls by Mr. Gandhi. In a two day exercise on Thursday, he met the party observers and party candidates who had lost despite securing more than 20,000 votes in the UP assembly elections this year. Mr. Gandhi, who had owned up responsibility for the party's electoral defeat, remained mostly a listener as he heard virtually each and every candidate giving his feedback over the poll performance.

Party Chief Sonia Gandhi had in her initial reaction, ascribed the UP poll outcome to poor organisation, absence of strong local leadership as also to wrong selection of candidates.
