Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi apprised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of the situation of farmers in Greater Noida who claim their land is being illicitly acquired by Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh for an expressway. An eight member delegation of the farmers that met the Prime Minister on Monday said that they have no problem in giving up their land for developmental purposes but they are concerned about the raw deal they are getting from the UP Government. Rahul Gandhi also criticised the Mayawati Government for committing severe atrocities on farmers.Mr Gandhi has said that the government is committed to pass the Land Acquisition Act in the next session of Parliament. Talking to media after meeting the Prime Minister, he said, government is working on the bill seriously as it is a complicated piece of legislation.
