Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has described the new land acquisition policy announced by Mayawati Government in Uttar Pradesh as misleading. Addressing a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Aligargh yesterday, he said it is not helping the farmers who have already lost their land. Mr Gandhi also accused Mayawati government of grabing farmers' lands at throw away prices. He said, Congress is not against development or making roads in Uttar Pradesh, but the land is being taken away from farmers to make golf courses, racing track and colonies. Criticising police firing on farmers at Tappal in Aligarh and Bhatta Parsaul in Gautam Buddha Nagar District, Mr. Gandhi said they were just pressing their demand for better compensation and not doing anything wrong.
